Bullet Types

The following is a description of the various bullet types we are, or will be offering. Our main emphasis is on high precision, long range bullets that maintain their BC to very long distances so we have very few VLD bullets to offer. VLD bullets have a high BC at fast speeds but loose their BC rapidly once the bullets start slowing down.

VLD HPBT-STD (Very Low Drag Hollow Point Boat Tail)

These bullets typically have the highest beginning Ballistic Coefficient of all bullets by using a Secant Ogive/Boat Tail combination. They are typically harder to “put to sleep” or stabilize, than LD Tangent Ogive bullets but the ballistic coefficient is higher at least in the beginning of flight. The faster you shoot these bullets the better they perform as they will go to sleep quicker. Out to 600 yards the drop in BC is negligable. These bullets are designed with the Seal Tite band as far forward as possible in order to drop into a magazine while still allowing sufficient Driving Band length to properly engage the rifling before the Seal Tite band enters the lands. As with most VLD bullets and most Boat Tail bullets they perform best at longer distances and loads should be developed at a minimum of 200 yards or beyond. As with all of our bullets, the Seal Tite band must be seated against the case mouth and the Seal Tite Band should not be left sticking out further than its width beyond the case mouth to prevent contact with the lead in the chamber.

VLD HPBT-MAX

Designed for maximum (MAX) speed by increased case capacity, the Seal Tite band is much further towards the tail of the bullet which allows the bullet to stick out of the case much further than the standard VLD HPBT STD bullets. A Bore Rider was added to prevent the bullet from contacting the lands and aids in making sure the bullet is centered in the bore. These bullets are for custom single shot rifle owners or for the individual that is willing to shoot single shot only as typically, magazines will not accept the C.O.A.L. that you will get with the bullet sticking out as far as it will be. In many instances, if a round is chambered but not fired, the bolt must be removed to remove the loaded cartridge because of the long C.O.A.L. The Driving Band length may or may not be the same as the standard VLD HPBT bullet and will be described in more detail in the individual bullet descriptions. More often than not, the Driving Band will be longer and only individuals that know their throat depth should use these bullets. Minimum throat depth will be stated in the bullet description and caution must be used to prevent excess pressure by the Driving Band contacting the lands. The bullets can be seated deeper but not deeper than having the Seal Tite band more than 1/2 the distance back in the neck of the case from the mouth to the shoulder.

LD HPBT-STD (Low Drag Hollow Point Boat Tail)

These bullets are much more forgiving than a VLD bullet and still have a very good BC. They are a Hollow Point Boat Tail, Tangent Ogive bullet which makes them retain their BC very well even when slowing down. Due to their ability to retain speed and energy they are our recommended choice for long range shooting. If shooting at very long distances (i.e. over 1200 yards), they will carry their BC much better and minimize or at times eliminate the use of variable BC’s in your ballistics program. Due to their length to weight ratio they typically have a higher BC compared to a jacketed bullet of the same weight with the same bullet geometry.

LD HPBT-MAX

As is typical with all our bullets with a MAX designation, these bullets are designed for maximum powder capacity by positioning the Seal Tite Band as close to the tail of the bullet as practical. Other than the Seal Tite band position, they are essentially the same as the standard LD bullet. These bullets are for custom single shot rifles or for the individual that is willing to shoot single shot only as typically, magazines will not accept the C.O.A.L. that you will get with the bullet sticking out as far as it will be. In many instances, if a round is chambered but not fired, the bolt must be removed to remove the loaded cartridge because of the long C.O.A.L. The Driving Band length may or may not be the same as the standard LD HPBT bullet and will be described in more detail in the individual bullet descriptions.

LD HPBT-MAX-AGG

In some cases we have developed some very aggressive bullets, as with bullets stated as LD HPBT MAX AGG (for aggressive), that must be shot at very fast speeds, or with fast barrel twist rates, or they simply do not perform well. In these cases it will be stated in the individual bullet description what minimum speed they must be shot at for optimum performance. Typically they are for wildcat cartridges such as the .338 Big Baer which is a .408 CheyTac necked down to a .338. This particular cartridge is capable of shooting a 252 grain LD HPBT-MAX-AGG bullet between 3400 and 3500 FPS with a BC of .750+ that is extremely accurate. There are many other cartridges in various calibers people have developed that will also shoot this type of bullet very well but only if capable of shooting at very high speeds or with fast barrel twist rates. It will be stated in the individual bullet descriptions what minimum speed they must be shot at with various barrel twist rates. As with other MAX designated bullets, these bullets are for custom single shot rifle owners or for the individual that is willing to shoot single shot only as typically, magazines will not accept the C.O.A.L. that you will get with the bullet sticking out as far as it will be. In many instances, if a round is chambered but not fired, the bolt must be removed to remove the loaded cartridge because of the long C.O.A.L. The Driving Band length may or may not be the same as the standard LD BT bullet and will be described in more detail in the individual bullet descriptions.

FBH HP (Flat Base Hunting Hollow Point)

These bullets were designed strictly with the discriminating hunter in mind that wants a very accurate, higher than standard BC bullet that fly like darts with terminal effects second to none. They are of a flat base design with either a Secant Ogive or Tangent Ogive made to chamber in standard production rifles. Like other flat base bullets they are easy to tune and stabilize quickly. Unlike other flat base bullets, the Secant Ogive gives them a flatter trajectory making targets easier to hit. Even the tangent ogive styles have a better BC than most swaged flat base bullets on the market today.
